The Pony Express came into existence in April of 1860. Six hundred Broncos, especially chosen for their fleetness, toughness and endurance were bought. Henry Wallace, left St. Joseph, Missouri on April 3 as the first rider. After 10 days and 3210 Kilometers, the last rider reached Sacramento CA. In search for riders, they looked for brave young men, preferably orphans, who rode and shot very well, and had no fear of Indian attacks. Each rider route was sixty miles that he had to accomplish in six hours with six different ponies. A rider would leave St. Joseph everyday (excpet Sunday) at noon, and the final rider would arrive in Sacramento at eight the next morning.
