Details

This Flintlock Decorator Blunderbuss Replica pistol is safe and non-firing. Popular as stage props and re-enactor guns. Build a fantastic historic gun collection at a fraction of the cost of the originals or expensive black powder gun replicas. This 18th Century Model was an effective highway or boarding piece. The Blunderbuss was commonly used on British, French, and American warships to repel would-be boarders. They could be loaded with shot, nails, glass, or any other material with the potential of causing severe harm to the target. They were primarily used as a defensive measure in close quarters. This replica gun is a classic design complete with simulated wood finish. Decorator Display cases are available. This non-firing version is accurately detailed and shows typical craftsmanship a great costume or conversation piece. Replicates the original gun in size, weight and appearance, and the parts function much like the original. However, parts cannot be interchanged or the replica gun made to fire ammunition. The flintlock mechanism was in main use for both military and civilian use for over 200 years. Not until the Reverend Alexander John Forsyth invented the rudimentary percussion cap system in 1807 did the flintlock system begin to decline in popularity. The percussion-cap system replaced the flintlock’s flint and flash pan with a waterproof copper cap that created a spark when struck. The percussion ignition system was more weatherproof and more reliable than the flintlock. The transition from flintlock to percussion cap was a slow one, even at that, since the percussion system was not widely used until around 1830. The Model 1840 U.S. musket was the last flintlock firearm produced for the U.S. military.
