French Pistol 17th century, Iron/Brass

Similar in style to their German counterparts but featuring a butt cap with distinctive floral engraving, the pistols made for the French elite in the 17th century were both attractive and functional. A number of highly skilled gunsmiths were based in and around Paris, and many examples of their work have survived.
